Flash forward ten years later, and it’s just as they say\u20142016, is so<\/em> back. Except now you’re sitting in a garishly lit office with eyes glued to a screen 8 hours a day (minimum). But no matter, frozen yoghurt is all the rage once more and who can say no to a beloved sweet treat to soothe the workforce malaise? With the recent surge of new frozen yoghurt shops opening up in Hong Kong, the cure is never too far. Here are our favourite spots to get a healthy dose of ice cold, ever-so-slightly-tangy froyo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest cool kid on the block is Chill Hill. Tucked away inside a self-service coin laundry in Sai Ying Pun, this frozen yoghurt spot gives you something to enjoy while watching your laundry\u2014or someone else’s\u2014spins. But don’t worry, having a basket of dirty clothes isn’t a prerequisite to experiencing the joy of Chill Hill. Each morning, “yoghurt bricks” are made fresh with 100% pure Australian yoghurt and French cream to create a clean, rich base free from the emulsifiers, water and artificial air used to create volume in standard soft serve machines. Instead, a high torque machine produces fresh froyo blends featuring a selection of whole foods like fig and avocado for a truly delicious health-conscious dessert. Guests can build their own cups or choose from Curated Creations, which currently boast a lineup of Medi Delight, Very Berries, Banoffee, Pinky Me and Tropical Wave. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A snaking queue along Wellington Road is a pretty good hint that MYKA is open. In case you’re not on social media, this is currently Hong Kong’s most viral frozen yoghurt spot. Founded in 2023, MYKA quickly evolved from a quaint artisanal Greek yoghurt shop in Madrid to an international brand with presence in major cities like London and New York. Now they’ve landed in Asia for the first time, bringing their signature authentic Greek yoghurt base to Hong Kong palates. At MYKA, industrial froyo powder mix is nowhere to be found; a base made with goat’s milk kefir is made in-house daily and arrives alongside premium toppings like Sicilian pistachios, bitter orange compote, olive oil and fleur de sel chocolate crumble. Every scoop whisks you away to breezy coastlines and sun-soaked pavilions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aptly named, Law of Yogurt sets the benchmark for frozen yoghurt in Hong Kong. Serving only frozen Greek yoghurt since they opened doors in Sai Kung in 2021, this spot serves up some of the creamiest, smoothest swirls in Hong Kong. Law of Yogurt offers the option of froyo in a cup or waffle cone\u2014a rarity among its peers\u2014and an extensive list of toppings to take the treat to the next level. Categorised into Fruit, Cookie, Crunchy, Chocolate, Jade Lemon, Others, and sweet or sour Sauces, the toppings are regularly ranked into a popularity list of the top 10, giving indecisive customers a helpful glimpse at the combinations others have been loving. Almost always on that list the addictively crunchy sea salt honeycomb, lychee popping boba, mango, oreo and chocolate mochi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To put it simply, this is some drool-worthy frozen yoghurt. Opened in 2023, Drool Froyo is a crowd-favourite among Hong Kong froyo enthusiasts. Every froyo starts with an ultra velvety base of quality MEVGAL Greek yoghurt, whether its one of their signature Drool’s Favourite creations or a custom cup. That being said, while the freedom to build your own is generally one of the most appealing aspects of froyo, Drool serves up adventurous seasonal creations you just have to try. These include recent collaborations with small Hong Kong brands like Filipino-founded Queso for an ube-drenched froyo with fresh mango and snappy coconut slices, as well as A Spark of Madness for a ballsy chili oil and chocolate combination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say the best cha chaan teng is just whatever’s closest. You could say that applies to froyo shops too. Opened late last year, Gulu Greek Yogurt is an extremely tempting option for being a mere 10-minute walk from the GQ Hong Kong office. But more than that, their menu nails the idea of a delicious, guilt-free dessert. Here, froyo never veers into overly confectionary territory. Rather than piling on sweets for the sake of indulgence, Gulu offers a thoughtful mix of toppings that skew fresh, textured and considered; chopped fruit, cookie crumbles, mochi, coco jelly, a variety of handcrafted “crunchies” (that means palmiers, honeycomb, and caramel walnuts), and sauces ranging from honey and dark chocolate to white truffle oil with salt, ensure each cup feels balanced no matter the combination you choose. A favourite on the Gulu Selection Menu is the Mango Tower with mango sauce, mochi, juicy cubes of mango, and a delightful housemade crumble. Easy, straightforward, delicious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ah, who could forget the OG’s? The first to ever bring frozen yoghurt to Hong Kong, Yo Mama opened its first store in Wan Chai in 2008 and never looked back. While various locations have opened and closed over the years, three spots throughout Hong Kong Island are still standing strong. If you’re looking for froyo tinged with nostalgia, this is it. Yo Mama offers the original, highly customisable froyo experience I personally fell in love with in high school. There’s nothing like staring into a glass divider at endless pots of toppings and feeling overwhelmed at the choices in front of you. At Yo Mama, that includes all things playful and fun\u2014sprinkles, M&M’s, a variety of cereals, marshmallows, you name it. They’re also known for having a constantly rotating roster of exciting seasonal flavours, the latest of which is ube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As someone whose route to Central always involves whizzing through Central Market from Hong Kong station, sometimes it’s good to be reminded to stop and smell the roses\u2014the roses being Noon. One of the many vibrant snack stalls lined up along the second floor of Central Market, Noon is a great spot to grab a quick bite of food, a refreshing drink, and of course, frozen yoghurt. If you’re not looking for a full-on dessert you can opt for a cup of just yoghurt, but if indulgence is what you’re after, their signature froyo arrives with 3 toppings of your choice and free honey! Besides your standard chopped fruit and crumble, Noon boasts a number of enticing options inspired by East Asian snacks such as Chinese deep-fried doughnut, caramel daifuku, slices of a mini chocolate banana swiss roll. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
